As I lazily relaxed on the warm green grass, I listened to the fountain's gentle splashing song as the water rose to the sky and plummeted back to the lake.  Suddenly, a lone bird flew past the fountain, catching my attention.  I'd never thought of it before, but all of a sudden a question flashed across my mind.

How would birds feel if they were earth bound?

Imagine, at a whimsical moment's notice, being able to take wing above all the buildings, the cities, the noise - away from the earth, up up up, past the clouds into the glorious sunshine beyond.  And then imagine being bound to earth, and not being able to fly at will.

Now imagine that being you.

I think too often we're lazy penguins.  We enjoy sliding through life but have never known the freedom of flight.  What if we get so caught up in our day-to-day activities that we don't realize God has a higher calling for us?  What if our minds are so full of temporal nonsenses that we can not see the spiritual highlights and eternal graces we could experience?  God has too many blessings in store for us; we can't waste our time being depressed by focusing on our earthly circumstances.  We need to rise above them and focus on God's numerous endowments of His love and mercy.

What if God has created us to fly?

  1. Mmmm, good thoughts... Far too many of us are content with a superficial experience with the Lord. Why do we dwell on the ugliness of earth when we have the sky to reach for?

  2. Amen brother. So, _so_ much more to life than being earthbound...

  3. Gorgeous writing of a stunningly simple yet deeply meaningful truth. Thanks for this post, Seth!
